Stamps, Covers and Postcards
Stamps
The Canvey Island Local Post designs and issues limited edition 'postage' stamps relating to Canvey Island. Our stamps are not valid for postal use on their own within the UK postal system.
CILP designs depict the history, development, events and wildlife of Canvey Island and surrounding region. We try and use original artwork, photo images and designs for all our stamps, covers and postcards wherever possible, but sometimes due to the historic nature of some subjects we use general licensed material or copyright images with permission.
Our stamps are variously described as 'carriage labels', 'faux stamps', 'local post stamps', 'fantasy stamps', 'artistamps', cinderella stamps, or more recently, alternative philatelic items! Here at the Canvey Post we simply prefer 'local post stamps'.
Next Stamp Issue: Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee scheduled for release on 1st June 2012. All Stamps issued are listed in the CILP Catalogue and can be purchased from our philatelic agent |
Covers
CILP normally issues alimited edition First Day Cover or First Day Card for each stamp released on the first day of issue. Commemorative covers are will also be issued for significant local, national and international events.
Each cover bears a 'First Day Issue' date cancellation and often a special cachet to compliment the stamp designs. CILP First Day and Commemorative Covers are produced as a 'Limited Edition' runs of between 5 and 50 covers depending on the design. It is our policy not to reprint any design after stock has been exhausted.
All Cover Issues are listed in the CILP Catalogue and can be purchased from our philatelic agent

Collecting
The specialised collecting of local post stamps and cinderellas in general has increased in the last ten years alongside the growth of thematic or topical stamp collecting. This is partly due due to the ever expanding number of stamps issued by many countries (including the UK) making it expensive to collect all new issues of a chosen country or field unless one has very deep pockets.
Some collectors have therefore been attracted into the cinderella and local post fields including the popular Discworld stamps associated with the fantasy novels of Terry Pratchett. But even Discworld stamps are now too expensive and numerous for most collectors.
However, many traditional Cinderella fields are still very affordable to collect and research. Cinderella stamp collecting is not new and has been an established philatelic area for some time, mainly involving Revenue stamps, First World War and Second World War propaganda stamps, Strike Posts, advertising and charity labels, and local posts.
Collecting cinderella and local post stamps offers new and established collectors a fascinating and varied choice of collecting fields and our Links page is worth a visit.
