Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on local UK Royal Mail deliveries, the CILP scheduled additional services for Canvey Island. The stamp was originally designed and printed in July 2016 in preparation for use during postal service disruption or civil emergency. A total of 90 stamps were printed and of these, 10 stamps were made available to collectors as a 'Specimen' overprint in November 2016.
